Intermediate to Senior Accountant – Exclusive Role

Intermediate to Senior Accountant – Exclusive Role

10.18.2018

(Ref SC9018) Central Auckland/CBD: Initial focus on accounts preparation and tax compliance + gradual increasing focus on reviewing..

  • BAS Intermediate/Senior wanted – Immediate appointment/January start
  • Our client is open to consider candidates with 3-4 years NZ CA audit experience
  • Autonomous role with strong client focus - manage your own time and workload..

This is an exclusive role with a growing boutique practice based in a central Auckland City location. The firm has enjoyed sustained growth, which has created the need for a technically competent business services accountant to join their close-knit team in a key role.

About the firm

Our client has a small team of accountants mostly at junior to intermediate level.

Located in a prime part of Central Auckland the firm has modern offices and makes good use of modern technology.

The Practice Director takes pride in the quality of their services and the calibre of their clientele (including some high-profile names).

While the firm has strong focus on professional standards and a distinctive client-centric approach, it offers a degree of flexibility.

This is close-knit team environment with direct access to the director. The firm offers regular seminars, team lunches and other events aimed at building and maintaining a healthy team spirit.

The firm’s clients come from a range of industries with the largest group entities turning over more than $60 million annually and boasting assets in excess of $100 million. This means exposure to technically complex client assignments.

The culture here will appeal to someone, looking for a professional yet flexible and non-hierarchical structure with a reasonable degree of personal freedom (when it comes to operational/everyday decisions) and autonomy.

The office offers modern facilities (including a Gym with internal access from your office, which you can use free of charge) and is close to various amenities.

About the role

This newly created role can best be described as a 2IC role with strong technical focus. The main goals we are looking to achieve with this appointment are:

  1. increase the technical competencies/capabilities of our client’s team, and
  2. take some of the daily (more hands-on) responsibilities off the Director so that they can focus more on developing new business and bringing larger and more complex clients

Your main duties and responsibilities in this role will include:

  • Preparation of year-end financial statements
  • Monthly management reporting
  • Tax compliance (including preparation of various tax returns for a wide range of entities)
  • General ledger reconciliations
  • Managing daily interaction with clients of various industry and functional backgrounds
  • Assisting clients with systems-related queries (MYOB, Bank Link, Excel and Xero)
  • Reviewing and supervising a team of 5 junior and intermediate accountants
  • Liaising with IRD, Banks, Lawyers and other external parties on behalf of your clients
  • Taking full responsibility of the team and the practice when the Director is away
  • Gradual exposure to value-add project for some of the largest and most complex clients
  • Various other ad hoc tasks and projects

This is a busy, multi-faceted role that will provide you with good opportunities to broaden your technical scope in the medium to long term.

The firm’s business plan has clear focus on expanding their services in the advisory field in the future and the successful candidate will be able to develop new technical skills.

About you

The successful candidate may be CA or CPA qualified or qualified by experience. It is important to point out that this is the most senior role under the Practice Director and requires a minimum of 4-5 years solid hands-on experience in a client-facing role (in a CA environment!).

You will have well-rounded skills and experience with preparation of year-end financial accounts, tax compliance and monthly reporting.

Previous exposure to advisory work would be considered advantageous, although is not strictly required, as long as you have the compliance competencies and experience.

At this level you will be able to communicate in a clear and articulate manner and your ability to establish good rapport with client and to interact with them effectively on a daily basis will be essential.

We are also open to consider audit professionals with current NZ CA experience and interested and committed to making a move to business services.
