The opportunity
A rare senior leadership role has opened in a well‑established Rotorua advisory practice, driven by succession planning. The incoming Associate Director will work closely with a long‑standing Partner who is expected to retire in the medium term, creating a clear pathway toward stepping into a Director position.
This is a pivotal appointment for the firm: our client is seeking someone who can take ownership of a busy, diverse portfolio, lead a high‑performing team, and contribute meaningfully to the continued growth of the practice.
Why this role deserves your serious consideration
The practice is thriving, with strong demand across Rotorua and the wider region. The successful candidate will play a key role in a leadership structure that offers unlimited potential for further professional development and career progression in the short term.
This hire is essential to ensuring continuity of leadership, client relationships, and strategic direction. You’ll be joining a stable, respected office with deep roots in the local business community and strong national and international connections.
Your leadership focus
- A busy and varied BAS portfolio spanning SMEs in agriculture, tourism, retail, property, and other industries.
- A capable and engaged team, with responsibility for coaching, development, workflow management, and performance leadership.
- Client relationships that require commercial insight, strong communication, and the ability to provide practical, forward‑looking advice.
- Growth initiatives that strengthen the practice—bringing a commercial mindset, identifying opportunities, and helping shape the future of the Rotorua office.
About you and what you will bring
- Senior‑level BAS experience (Senior Manager or Associate Director level).
- Proven capability in leading teams, managing complex portfolios, and delivering high‑quality advisory outcomes.
- A commercial, growth‑oriented approach—comfortable developing new opportunities rather than relying solely on existing clients.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust with clients, colleagues, and the wider leadership group.
- The ambition and readiness to step into a Director role in the medium term.
Location & lifestyle
Rotorua offers a unique blend of lifestyle, affordability, and community. Candidates already based in the region, or willing to relocate, are strongly preferred. A relocation package is available for those moving from outside the area.
Nearby commuting locations may be considered if practical.
Remuneration
Salary: $150,000–$155,000, plus a range of additional benefits. Importantly, this position is being hired with a clear succession pathway in mind, with partnership consideration expected within the next couple of years.
Other information
You’ll report to a highly respected Partner known for being a straight shooter, supportive, and deeply connected to the region. Our client is committed to ensuring a smooth succession process and is looking for someone capable, confident, and ready to take the reins.
