One of our long-standing clients, a highly respected CA firm with an international footprint is looking to appoint a confident and commercially minded Senior BAS Accountant to join their Auckland CBD practice. This is a role that will suit someone who enjoys client interaction, thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment, and is ready to step up in both responsibility and advisory capability.
The opportunity
You’ll work closely with experienced Partners and senior leaders while managing a varied portfolio of SMEs, emerging businesses and established mid‑market clients. The role blends compliance, management reporting and hands‑on advisory work, giving you genuine exposure to the conversations and decisions that shape clients’ growth.
This position offers strong development pathways, regular interaction with decision‑makers, and the chance to mentor junior accountants as you continue to build your own technical and advisory strengths.
Duties and responsibilities
- Preparing and reviewing financial statements in line with NZ accounting standards
- Delivering management reporting, budgeting, cashflow forecasting and performance insights
- Preparing tax returns and identifying practical tax planning opportunities
- Providing clear, commercially grounded advice that supports clients’ operational and strategic goals
- Managing workflow, monitoring job progress and maintaining strong client relationships
- Assisting with trust accounting, Companies Office obligations and accounting system implementations
- Coaching junior team members and contributing to a positive, high‑performing team culture
About the successful candidate
- 3–4+ years of BAS experience within a New Zealand CA environment
- A relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance or similar
- CAANZ or ACCA qualified (or well on the pathway)
- Strong capability across financial statements, tax compliance and management reporting
- Experience with Xero, MYOB and cloud‑based accounting platforms
- Confident communication skills and a genuine interest in client advisory
