Location: Auckland - Auckland Central
Work Type: Permanent Full Time

Our client is a highly respected, internationally connected professional services firm. Their tax practice in Auckland is entering a new phase of growth and is seeking a Tax Manager or Senior Manager with strong cross-border tax expertise. This is a key appointment within a small but fast-growing and high-performing tax team. The tax team delivers premium advisory services to private clients, SMEs, family offices, and internationally active businesses.
If you are a tax professional with deep experience in international tax, inbound/outbound structuring, global mobility, or multi-jurisdictional advisory, this role offers a rare opportunity to step into a senior, influential position with exceptional scope.
The Firm
This organisation is part of a global network with a rapidly expanding international footprint. Locally, the practice is boutique in size but global in reach, known for:
- High-end technical capability
- A supportive, close-knit culture
- Strong international connections
- Entrepreneurial clients with complex tax needs
- A growing tax practice with genuine long-term opportunities
The leadership team is committed to developing people, supporting career progression, and building a technically outstanding advisory practice.
The Opportunity
This is a generalist tax advisory role with a strong international twist. You will work closely with the Head of Tax, taking ownership of a portfolio that includes:
- Cross-border tax advisory
- International structuring
- Inbound/outbound tax issues
- Global mobility and expatriate tax matters
- High-net-worth individuals and family offices
- SME and mid-market clients with international operations
The technical mix is approximately 90% high-end consulting / 10% high-end compliance.
You will have exposure to a diverse range of projects across all major tax areas, with direct access to global technical resources and international expertise.
This role is ideal for a Big Four or mid-tier professional seeking:
- Broader technical scope
- Faster progression
- A more agile, supportive environment
- The ability to make a visible impact
The practice is growing at an impressive pace, and this appointment will play a key role in supporting that growth.
Who We’re Looking For
We are seeking a CA or CPA qualified tax professional with:
- Strong cross-border tax experience (essential)
- 4+ years NZ tax experience (Big Four or mid-tier preferred)
- Proven capability in international tax, global mobility, or multi-jurisdictional advisory
- Strong technical grounding and confidence handling complex tax issues
- Excellent communication skills and client-facing presence
- A self-starter mindset and willingness to take ownership
- Ability to collaborate across teams and support partners on strategic initiatives
- Business development capability is beneficial but not essential. The key requirement is international tax expertise.
This role will suit a Tax Manager or Senior Manager ready for a more influential position, or a high-end Assistant Manager with strong cross-border experience looking for their next step.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Central Auckland location with on-site parking
- Flexible, supportive work environment
- High-end advisory work with minimal compliance
- Access to global technical resources
- Genuine progression opportunities in a growing practice
- Partnership pathway for the aspiring
- A role with real impact - play a key role in shaping the future of the tax practice in the firm
This is an outstanding alternative to staying in a Big Four or larger mid-tier firm, especially if you are seeking more autonomy, broader scope, and faster progression.
