The role
This senior position sits at the heart of our client’s tax advisory offering. You will be part of a close-knit, highly engaged team that enjoys tackling complex issues and turning them into practical, commercially grounded outcomes. As a senior manager, you will draw on deep technical tax capability and strong financial and commercial insight. Your work will span advisory, research, client leadership and internal collaboration across the wider firm.
Key responsibilities
- Advising on a wide mix of client matters, from structuring and planning to resolving technical issues
- Conducting robust research across New Zealand and international tax rules, case law and IRD guidance
- Preparing clear, commercially relevant written advice tailored to each client’s circumstances
- Supporting the business services teams across two offices with complex compliance matters
- Leading and contributing to client discussions, workshops and problem‑solving sessions
- Managing deadlines and navigating periods of high workload when required
- Engaging with IRD on reviews, disputes and opportunities, including challenging positions where appropriate
- Building strong internal relationships to identify tax risks and opportunities across the client base
- Acting as a senior point of contact for established businesses, growth‑stage companies, R&D‑focused entities, trusts and high‑net‑worth individuals
- Providing strategic direction to the tax advisory practice and contributing to firm‑wide leadership initiatives
- Driving business development, nurturing profitable client relationships and modelling strong client‑care behaviours
- Leading, coaching and developing team members to maintain a high‑performing, supportive culture
- Developing and executing business plans to grow the practice and meet financial targets
- Meeting prospective clients, preparing proposals and representing the firm in the market
- Collaborating across the firms New Zealand and overseas offices to build networks and unlock new opportunities
What you will bring
- A commerce or accounting degree
- Full CA (CAANZ) or CPA (Australia) qualification
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted internal and external relationships
- Proven experience managing client portfolios and delivering high‑quality advisory outcomes
- Demonstrated leadership capability and experience guiding teams
- A proactive approach to learning and staying current with tax developments
- Advanced technical tax knowledge and sound commercial judgement
