Our client is a well‑established advisory practice with a strong presence in New Zealand and internationally. Based in a handy Southeast Auckland location, the firm is known for building long‑term relationships, delivering practical commercial advice, and supporting clients through every stage of their business journey. With continued growth over several years, they’re now looking for an experienced BAS Manager ready to step into a true leadership role with attractive potential for the future.
The opportunity
This position offers a mix of hands‑on client work, team leadership, and strategic input. You’ll work closely with business owners and senior stakeholders, helping them navigate accounting, tax and performance challenges while shaping the direction of engagements from planning through to completion.
You’ll oversee a capable team, review complex financial information, and provide clear, actionable guidance that supports better decision‑making. The environment is collaborative, fast‑moving and suited to someone who enjoys variety, autonomy and meaningful client interaction.
What you’ll be doing
- Partnering with clients to understand their goals, identify issues and develop practical solutions that drive sustainable growth
- Providing technically sound advice across accounting standards, tax compliance and business management
- Reviewing financial statements, management accounts and reports to deliver insights that matter
- Advising on tax‑efficient structures and strategies (trusts, groups, GST, FBT, PAYE and related areas)
- Leading engagements from start to finish, ensuring quality, accuracy and timely delivery
- Applying strong judgement when resolving complex matters and escalating where appropriate
- Communicating technical concepts in a clear, confident and client‑friendly way
- Coaching and developing team members to strengthen capability within the BAS function
About you
You’ll bring a blend of technical strength, commercial awareness and a genuine interest in helping clients succeed. Ideally, you will have:
- 5+ years’ experience in Business Advisory within a CA environment
- A solid accounting foundation and progress toward CA qualification
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
- Excellent communication skills and confidence working directly with clients
