Our client is seen by many as one of the employers of choice in the SME segment of the chartered accounting arena in Auckland. Over the years the firm has enjoyed impressive growth, both organically and through mergers and acquisitions.  

The tax practice in the firm is relatively small but growing and currently has an excellent opportunity for a tax consultant to join their team in South/East Auckland.  We are searching for a strong intermediate ready to step up into a senior role or an accomplished senior tax consultant looking for a new professional challenge. 

Here is a brief profile of our client’s ideal candidate for this role:

  • Tertiary qualified, CA/CPA/Law qualifications 
  • Current NZ CA Tax experience 
  • A minimum of 2-3 years’ experience in a CA environment 
  • Good understanding of New Zealand corporate and international tax 
  • Previous client-facing/servicing experience 
  • Previous experience with deferred tax calculations is essential
  • Proven ability to conduct research and legislative analysis, 
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to communicate complex information (verbally and in writing)
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritise, organize, manage own time and meet deadlines
  • Good working knowledge of Excel 
  • Ability to work independently and confident in dealing with global tax advisors


The role is part of a close-knit team and will suit a team player with a friendly and outgoing personality and positive attitude. You will work closely alongside a tax manager and, at times, directly with the partners. This is a client-facing role, and you will be responsible for a section of clients, including dealing with various tax related queries. 

Some of the key responsibilities, as highlighted by our client include but are not limited to:

  • Providing specialist tax advice on corporate tax and international tax
  • Providing tax advice to individuals, companies, trusts and entities
  • Preparation of income tax and deferred tax calculations
  • Preparation of indirect tax returns
  • Assisting clients with IRD risk reviews and audits
  • Tax due diligence
  • M&A transactional work, transfer pricing and R&D tax incentive claims 
  • Establishing, nourishing and managing meaningful relationship with a range of clients
  • Due diligence and advisory support on growth and expansion opportunities
  • Ongoing taxation advice, assisting client and team members with technical queries Various ad hoc responsibilities. 
  • Various other ad hoc tasks and projects
