Our client is a vibrant chartered accounting practice located in a handy location in the wider Central Auckland area. The firm has a diverse client base ranging from small, relatively new ventures to sizable enterprises for whom a broad range of professional services are provided.

We now seek an experienced Business Services Accountant who is well versed in the use of Xero and MYOB to work on a portfolio of clients comprising companies, trusts, partnerships and individuals, processing their data through to preparation of annual financial statements and tax returns.

The successful applicant will need to have well developed practical skills and experience with processing client data and producing a high quality set of accounts. Your ability to identify opportunities for value-added services and bring them to the attention of the Partners n the firm will be essential in this role.

The main duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Periodic management accounts;
  • Year-end financial statements processed through MYOB New AO;
  • Preparation of various tax returns (income tax, PAYE, GST, FBT, RWT);
  • Provisional tax calculations, imputation credit management, dividend statements etc;
  • Meeting with clients to discuss their accounts, requirements and potential solutions;
  • Identifying areas for potential concern and formulation of solutions;
  • Training, setup and assistance with client queries in regards to Xero and other cloud based accounting and business operations systems e.g. Receipt Bank, Workflow Max, Deputy, Trade Gecko etc; and
  • Assisting directors/senior associates in the carrying out of special projects such as valuations, IRD investigations, dispute resolutions and forensic accounting services.

Our client's brief has highlighted the following competencies and personal attributes as crucial for this newly created role:

  • Strong client relationship skills – this is critical as the successful candidate will be expected to manage face to face meetings with clients and much of the work will be performed at client premises
  • Self-motivated and self-accountable
  • Well-rounded systems skills and passion for new technology in the context of a modern CA firm
  • Ability to work in a team/collaborative environment
  • Expert working knowledge of the Xero Ecosystem
  • Proven ability to manage own workflow and time
  • Lateral thinker able to think on their feet and solve problems on the go
  • Solid background in accounts preparation and tax compliance in a client-facing role
  • Proactive, forward-focused thinker with an ability to identify issues and ways to improve consistently

It is essential that the successful candidate be experienced in Xero; not just Xero certified but must have broad every-day experience in using the programme. Experience in MYOB is also essential and having an understanding of any other programmes will be a distinct advantage.

Ideally we are looking for a recently CA qualified individual or someone who is currently working towards a CA designations. Although we are open to consider suitably experienced candidates without formal qualifications, if they meet all or most of the above requirements.
